Fellow blogger Rajan asks: “By the way, has anyone noticed that of late more than 50% of posts in ContentSutra in last few weeks is about mobile companies/deals happening in India?
Karat: Thanks, Rajan, for regularly logging in to ContentSutra. Yes, we have been covering mobile content/technology of late pretty vigorously. As you noted, I think it’s a function of the market dynamics in India. We are essentially committed to cover the digital media space. In India, it’s more of mobile as of now. Look at the numbers: we have 65 million mobile subscribers (GSM alone has crossed 50 million this month) and are adding three million every month. I know, compared to China, which has over 350 million mobile users, India is still no big number. But looking at our target of 200 million mobile users by 2008-09, the market is huge. And in terms of mobile content business, it’s about $100 million now, but the potential is 10 times of that. So the mobile space is going to be eventful, and a whole lot interesting to cover it too.
