Not bad: AG Mobile, the mobile content division of American Greetings, has about $5 million in net sales in its latest quarter (ending Aug 31), according to the latest SEC earnings filing. AGM has been making some good deals in the industry, and I had a detailed chat about the company’s plans with Bryan Biniak, who’s heading the mobile division. The company has been smart in focusing on different ethnic and interest areas within the sector. The first one, hip-hop, is possibly the biggest grosser of among ringtones, generally speaking, and AG’s association with Def Jam has helped them crack the market.
Then, the Hispanic market, where AG has a potentially lucrative partnership with Univision Movil….the Hispanic/Latin market are voracious consumers of mobile content, and few other mobile content companies have concentrated on the specific market.
And then, some small but smart European acquisitions over the last year or so…in fact, Bryan has just moved to Paris for the next three months, to set up, integrate and expand the operations there. AG just had a good win with O2 in UK, which launched its i-mode service this month.
