Intel To Announce Its Low-Cost Computer Strategy For India Soon

Sify.com: It seems chip-maker Intel is in advanced stages of developing a low cost computer for Indian market. Intel is believed to be currently undertaking pilot studies in ten different regions in the country on community computers that were rugged in nature and use wireless technology. The computer is expected to cost less than Rs 10,000 ($230). Intel would announce a strategy for this very soon.
Talking to newspersons after delivering the keynote address at the two-day India Developers Forum meet in Bangalore, Intel Corporation Senior Vice-President Patric P Gelsinger said the community computer has been designed to provide internet access to communities and villages in rural and remote areas. Based on the inputs derived from the pilot studies, Intel will announce its strategy.
He said the Intel-based community computer can function with a car battery as its back up as electricity supply is sporadic in many parts of rural India. It will contain special screens and filters to reduce dust and insects that can enter the PC and impact reliability. It is also designed to handle extreme heat conditions of more than 38 degrees Celsius.
