Festival Celebrates Mobile Phone Movies

The Pocket Film Festival will open this week in Paris, sponsored by Nokia and French mobile operator SFR. The movies were filmed with 3G phones which were handed out several months ago to “film-makers, writers, musicians, and other creative types”. The results range from a full-length movie to film-noir to parody to personal diaries.
“There’s already great creativity in mobile phone film-making,” said festival director Laurence Herszberg. “I don’t think we’ll ever see Scorcese making films on phones, it’s a new form and it will attract its own creators.”
Fourteen of the films are in the running for prizes of cash and mobile phones…I just hope the films are made available outside of the festival in some way…
