Movie Studios Planning To Push Online Movie Services; Music

Well, we’ve heard it before, but anyway, NBC Universal CEO Bob Wright said it again on Tuesday at the BASCAP conference we mentioned yesterday…”It’s something we have to do, but it has to be done well,” Wright said “These movies are so expensive we have to be careful … We’re pretty close. Hopefully by the end of this year we’ll be able to do that…The problems are spreading and no one is immune,” Wright said. “In my business we’re just looking over the shoulder of the music industry, which has gone through a very difficult time.”

Meanwhile, at the same meeting, EMI Group Chairman Eric Nicoli dismissed suggestions by Apple Computer Inc. that a single price for songs sold over the Internet would help prevent piracy in the music industry…”I’m not persuaded of the fact that a lower price deters piracy,” he added. “What I am persuaded of is that making music more convenient and better value is a deterrent to piracy.”
