Steve Case Developing Health portal; Buys Four Content Companies

M&A news is flowing in fast and furious this month: Steve Case’s $100 million health fund, called Revolution, has bought four health information and content companies, and is launching a health portal, called Revolution Health, by next year.

Technically, he spinning off a new company from main Revolution, called Revolution Health Group, which will be the health info group, much in the same vein as WebMD (NSDQ: WBMD) Health, which just completed its IPO.

The companies RHG bought are MyDNA Media, which provides up-to-date health information; 1-800-Schedule, which helps consumers find doctors and schedule appointments; Simo Software, which enables users to keep track of their health care spending; and Wondir, a search engine linking users with others who may have answers to their health-care problems. A few other companies are listed on the site, with controlling or minority interests: Interfit Health, Extend Benefits, RediClinic and ConnectYourCare.

As the WSJ story says, Case compares his current effort with building AOL…bringing health info to masses, much like he did with AOL (NYSE: TWX). John Pleasants, is the CEO of RHG and formerly president of Interactive Corp’s Information and Services Group and CEO of Ticketmaster. Other exec management memebes are listed on the website….

And he’s bringing in a powerhouse board: Chaired by him, other members include Colin Powell; former HP CEO Carly Fiorina; former Netscape CEO Jim Barksdale; former Oxford Health Plans CEO Steve Wiggins; and former Fannie Mae CEO Frank Raines.

The portal will be based out of Washington DC, and will be run by myDNA Media CEO Don Hackett…

More acquisitions will be done in the next few months.
