The Financial Express: This is a Q&A with John Mulligan, Director for Planning and Engineering (Asia Pacific), AT&T.
According to him, in India, there are opportunities for technology leap-frogging. For example, with the rapid development of broadband wireless technologies such as WiMax, it may soon be possible to provide wireless broadband access in both markets to rural areas and business districts more cost effectively without the need to lay fibre or to pay last mile access charges. This will be a great potential benefit to customers, offering greater choice and flexibility.
In answer to another question, he said India will take some time for VoIP to be widely adopted, but he does believe it will become increasingly popular with the proliferation of broadband networks.
