CIOL: On the back of a $4 million-funding, mPortal, a mobile content and applications enabler, is expanding its operations in Bangalore. The company plans to invest a part of the new funding to expand its product development activities in Bangalore. mPortal has offices in the US and India and serves a variety of global customers including Alltel, AOL, Disney Mobile and Xerox. Bangalore hosts its India office and the product development center.
mPortal India Wireless Solutions Pvt. Ltd director Rajendran Raghavan said, “Currently, we have about 30 engineers dedicated to the development and enhancement of our core products. In light of the recent round of funding, and our increasing engagements with several Fortune 500 companies, we anticipate significant expansion of operations both at our US and India facilities. In the short term, the Bangalore headcount is likely to reach 50.”
mPortal is the driver behind the R-World data service that was launched by Reliance Infocomm. Venkatesh said that the company’s success at Reliance has also attracted a lot of interest from other mobile operators in India and the rest of the world, which we hope to capitalize on in the year ahead.
