CTIACarlo has a good post up on a keynote from Trip Hawkins (from Digital Chocolate) about mobile games…Rafat has posted the audio to that keynote here.
“He said games have to give people an excuse to be social…This drives Digital Chocolate’s choice of games, but also how it builds them. Not only does it create casual, social games, it also seeks to build communities around them that encourage both in-game and out-of-game communication among players.”
This is true…I noticed a long time ago that the reason board games will always be popular is that they allow people to play together — actually talk and touch and eat and all the other social things humans like to do. Online games just don’t give that, even with instant messaging. Still, there are times when people are away from their groups and if they have a community on their mobiles they’ll check in with that…
