NewKerala.com: Chennai-based telecom equipment provider Midas Communication Technologies is aiming to become India’s first billion dollar telecom product company in the next three to four years riding on its broadband products like corDECT (which contributed about 80 per cent of the current turnover of Rs 400 crore or $90 million), and its latest broadband technology CITIUS which offers service providers the ‘fastest broadband solution, while assuring end-users high speed data access.’ CITIUS was launched today.
”CITIUS–the internet triple play unified system was developed with a vision for providing broadband internet connectivity to hundreds of million of people living in crowded cities, small towns and villages where cable TV is almost ubiquitous,” Midas Founder-Director and CEO Shirish Purohit said.
CITIUS was a unique broadband solution that works on the existing cable TV infrastructure in every Indian household. ”It makes use of the existing cable TV network to provide broadband connection to every dwelling nit, enabling triple play services”. Making use of the cable TV network for downstream traffic and using broadband wireless for the upstream traffic, CITIUS platform provides upto 40 mbps of data speeds. ”CITIUS or cable wireless internet triple play unified system promises simultaneous data, voice and video download on an integrated system put together by Midas”, Mr Shirish Purohit said.
There are about one million broadband users in the country at present, he said the cable TV subscriber base was a whopping 50 to 55 million in India. Utilising the cable TV advantage, the penetration of broadband connectivity would be increased by leaps and bounds through the CITIUS platform.
