CTIA: Split Personality

This writer claims the Wireless IT & Entertainment conference is about mobile content and CTIA’s efforts to bill it as “one show with two personalities” is incorrect…and he’s not happy with the way the show is run either.
“With all due respect to the CTIA, the association is not doing the best job organizing and hosting that kind of show. Mobile content is exciting, and the way the CTIA is positioning this event and moderating the discussion simply isn’t very exciting. Perhaps owing to the constraints of sponsorship commitments and the general need to please, the CTIA allows companies to use the show’s biggest, best-attended sessions as commercials for their products and technologies.”
From my experience the panels alternated between the hyped, the obvious and the fantastic — but that was mainly dependent on the moderator and panelists. I have to agree that the case studies were a little strange, something you’d expect from a conference run by a particular company rather than an organization. The best ones were where the speaker explained where they thought the market was going…it was more “this is why we’re doing what we’re doing” rather than “what we’re doing is great”.
This comment is also true: “Because of its mobile content focus, this show comes with a built-in buzz and energy that just can’t be stifled.”
