@CTIA: Why Aren’t You Using Content?

Another survey at a mobile content conference has revealed a distinct lack of people enjoying their own products…A survey by Valista at CTIA found that only 18% of respondents had downloaded mobile content in the past week. There were no details of the survey given, so I don’t know how accurate it is…but 15% of respondents have never downloaded any content at all! No wonder a segment of the industry doesn’t seem to know what it’s doing…
More figures:

  • Over 25% of respondents did not download content within the last month
  • Only 23% of U.S. participants own a 3G handset, compared to 56% in Europe
  • Over 50% of respondents predict gaming and video will be the most downloaded content in 3 years
  • Ringtones are still the most favoured download
  • Those interviewed showed a preference for the older GSM/GPRS enabled handsets (61%) rather than the newer 3G devices (23%)
  • 22% of the content purchased was part of an ongoing subscription model
  • 26% of the industry insiders questioned at the show thought that in three years 3G would still be “just catching on.”
  • 64% found the process of downloading content easy and convenient
