@ CTIA: InfoSpace Mobile’s Building Back Up

InfoSpace Mobile, a company I’ve been reporting on aggressively over the last year or so, is slowly building back up, after it had a setback with a lot of senior execs leaving. Yesterday it announced that Stephen Davis, till now the president of Granada America, the U.S.-based development and production division of ITV, will now head the mobile unit. It will be announcing another big hire in the next week or so. And it just launched its local search product in Java…I saw the app last night and it looks pretty cool, at least by the looks of it.
This morning, I had a chat with Steve Elfman, executive VP of Technology and Operations at INSP…he gave an overview of the current efforts on the mobile side: search, ringtones, gaming and other original content. It is still a tough road ahead for the company, as aggregators keep getting squeezed out, but it is a waiting game….I do think the aggregator scenario will mirror the online world, where the aggregators that tough it out will come back up on tops in a few years.
