Yahoo-Reliance Tie-Up: Yahoo! Mail On Reliance Mobile Phones

Exchange4Media.com: This is an interesting move. Yahoo! India has entered into a strategic tie-up with Reliance Infocomm to enable users of its mobile service to access Yahoo! Mail on R World. This is the first time that Yahoo! Mail service would be available to a mobile phone user in India via POP3 server. Reliance IndiaMobile users can login to their Yahoo mail account on their mobile phones anytime, anywhere and from any Reliance handset with a Yahoo Email User ID and Password.
The user experience would be similar to what one gets on a PC and the service is being offered at a login price of Rs 3 per session, during which one can read, send or forward as many mails as one can.
Our take: If Yahoo’s having tie-up exclusively for Reliance users, then what about the subscribers of other mobile operators like Airtel, Hutch or Tata Indicom? Should a content-owner and mail services provider go in for exclusive tie-ups for providing mail access on mobile? We think not.
