So I’m losing count now: there’s Sony Pictures Mobile, which is the mobile division of the film studio ( it recently did a bunch of senior hires). Then there’s Sony Connect Mobile, which only they know what they do (mobile music, mainly).
And now Sony Pictures Television, previously Columbia TriStar Television, is forming a mobile unit: it is looking to develop original content for wireless platforms, as well as material derived from existing shows in Sony’s vast TV archive and companion promotional pieces for current Sony productions.
The venture is being spearheaded by SPT executive Michael Ross….he had been an exec in SPT’s current programming department before his promotion.
My advice to all the three units: get a room and sort it out…really, if Howard Stringer wants to bring the various big units together, he might want to try from the bottom of the food chain, by integrating various wireless and online units.
