MySpace.com’s sponsorship of the Nine Inch Nails tour with Queens of the Stone Age is part of an ongoing marketing campaign harnessing the site’s 30-million member power for NIN. MySpace can show exclusive concert footage from the tour (warning: opening the page unleashes sound). The other marketing components:
– the exclusive world premiere on the latest NIN album last spring generated more than 500,000 MySpace user streams in one week. Maybe it was coincidence but it was a record launch week for NIN and the alblun (With_Teeth) debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200.
– MySpace hosts an NIN single that can be remixed. More than 1,200 remixes have been uploaded. People can vote for their favorites.
This is only a sample of the kind of marketing MySpace can do — and just one example of why FIM wants it for News Corp. Press release.
