Some spanner in the works for the mobile TV hopefuls in UK, at least for the DVB-H standard…telecom regulatory authority Ofcom is saying that the spectrum to run these services is unlikely to be available until 2012 which is the year for digital TV switchover in UK.
Operator O2, which along with Nokia and Arqiva is trialing mobile TV service now, was hoping that spectrum would be available by 2008. “It is unlikely that a national service could be launched until digital switchover is completed,” the Ofcom spokesman said. “However, it would be inappropriate for Ofcom to propose firm plans for assigning this until we have completed our discussions with European neighbours at the Regional Radio Conference next year,” he added.
