This will cause some buzz at CTIA conferences on Monday…Mforma, one of the biggest mobile gaming publishers, has appointed its COO Jonathan Sacks as the company’s CEO, as it prepares for an eventual IPO. Daniel Kranzler, who has been the CEO for three years and who founded the company in 2001, is now the chairman of the company.
Sacks joined MForma in March, as COO, with a mandate to clean up the company after it made a bunch of acquisitions all over the world…
From the release: “He will be stepping aside from day-to-day operations in order to continue to lead strategic initiatives and he will also continue to represent MFORMA at industry conferences and other public events.” Kranzler is still the biggest shareholder in the company.
Since joining Mforma, Sacks has consolidated his senior management team at company’s San Francisco location (from Seattle), which now officially becomes the company’s headquarters, as we reported first here.
Meanwhile, the company’s major efforts and acquisitions in China are now humming along, a big mandate for Sacks when he came in. The company is not expected to make any more M&As as it prepares to file in the next few months or so. Much like other Seattle based companies like RealNetworks and InfoSpace, its mid and senior level employees who were either eased out or left on their own are now popping up at other content companies across the spectrum. Some recent mid-level employees have gone to companies like Verizon, Warner, SK Earthlink and GoTV.
For everything on MForma, check out our dedicated section on the company. We’ll be covering the reaction from CTIA attendees Monday…so stay tuned.
