News.com Redesign: Whizbang Takes Precedence

News.com has redesigned, again (almost two years to the date)…it has relaunched its site in beta. It looks cool, but holy-mother-of-god, it is busy.

The relaunch adds a lot of community and personalization features and all the buzzword-type things you could think of. The tagline for the relaunch: “News.com -this time it’s personal”. And it has changed its site tagline overall to, “News.com: News of Change”. It has also changed the main categories into some weird conceptual ones like “Cutting Edge”, “Access”, “Threat” etc…

They forgot one thing: it is all about the story…I’ll stick to the pure and simple RSS feed…

Update: One thing I will say, though: the site has mended its ways on crediting and linking…it is now doing it as much as say any other blogger would do. That is the biggest step any big media site could take…the fear of linking out, 10 years into the Internet, is still the biggest fear.
