(sub. req.) Ruckus Wireless (till now called as Video54), a video over Wi-Fi delivery technology company, has closed $9 milllion second round funding, as well as announced PCCW, Hong Kong’s telecoms provider, as a large customer. (Apparently the company didn’t do a lot of research on the name: Ruckus Networks is a digital media provider for the college market). This increases total investment in the company to over $14 million since its formation in June of 2004. The proceeds will be used to enhance product development and to scale sales and marketing activities.
Sutter Hill Ventures and Investor Growth Capital, the VC arm of Investor AB of Sweden, led the new financing. Existing investors Sequoia Capital and WK Technology Fund completed the oversubscribed round. WK Technology Fund led the $3.5 million first round of financing, while Sequoia Capital and private investors provided the initial $1.5 million of seed money.
Companies like RW and others like AirGo are pushing advances that tackle the twin problems of overlapping signals as wi-fi networks proliferate and the demands of consumers beginning to beam data-intensive video around the house. It technology focuses on eliminating the fluctuations in data rates that disrupt video streaming. Netgear has incorporated its product in a new range of wireless units.
