@ DH: Mobile TV: What Do TV Networks Think?

dhday1.jpgAn interesting panel at the Digital Hollywood conference today, focused mainly on how TV networks and other big media companies are looking at mobile TV and video, and how big telecom players like Qualcomm and Nokia are trying to work with them to convince them. Added to the mix are mobile video aggregation startups like GoTV Networks, based here in LA.
Among the participants: Bruce Gersh, Senior VP, ABC Entertainment Group;Lucy Hood, President, Fox Mobile Entertainment; Rob Chandhok, VP, QUALCOMM, MediaFLO; George Linardos, Sr. Business Development Manager, Branded Content, Nokia; and David Bluhm, CEO, GoTV Networks.
The general drift of the panel: ABC is looking at the space cautiously and considers this the phase one of its mobile video efforts…Gersh called his company’s efforts as clipcasting. On the other hand, Fox is more aggressive in the mobile video arena: after all, it coined the term “Mobisodes” and has done some good work in producing original content series for the mobiles, both in Europe and in U.S. Lucy Hood is the star there, of course…
Other topics of discussion included on production values related to mobile video..the group does believe production values and big brands will drive the mobile video business into mainstream.
