More On TimesSelect Affiliate Program, Advertising

[Staci D. Kramer] NYTimes.com is not launching the TimesSelect affiliate program (first written about here in May) with the new service today. Martin Nisenholtz, SVP-Digital Operations, NYTCO, tells me the program is in the works and should be in place by the end of the year. He also said potential affiliates won’t be limited to bloggers. For instance, New York Times News Service clients who will not longer be able to publish NYT Op-Ed columns online could get a cut for anyone who signs up with TimesSelect via their sites. (I’m not sure how many will go for sending readers to another site’s subscription service.)

Advertising: NYTimes.com will sell ads on the new TimesSelect Op-Ed page and on individual columnist pages, according to a spokesperson; when I interviewed him the day of the announcement, Nisenholtz said the Times would maintain its policy about placing advertising near Op-Ed columnists so that appears to have changed. Nisenholtz also said back in May that he expected good reception from advertisers for a targeted audience and that higher CPMs could be possible.
