Mobile TV Could Clog 3G Networks, Study Warns

Although many carriers are banking on mobile TV to generate revenues to counter the cost of 3G licences many will find their 3G networks swamped by the service if it takes off as hoped.
Our modeling reveals that the capacity of a typical W-CDMA network could be exceeded as soon as 2007, for example, if 40 percent of 3G users take up mobile TV and video services and consume eight minutes of video per day,” said Alastair Brydon, co-author of the report.
Of course, carriers are looking at introducing other technologies to help take the load off the network, but that will cost more money as well…
