I’ve heard this figure before, but just to reiterate: Vicom co-COO Tom Freston gave a presentation earlier this week at the Merrill Lynch Media & Entertainment conference, and mentioned this about MTV’s wireless efforts: “wireless continues to be a very ripe medium for us worldwide. MTV Networks is already aggressively building wireless services for all our core
brands and is partnering with carriers like Virgin Mobile, Verizon, China Mobile, DoCoMo in Japan to deliver experiences like ringtones, text updates and video. If you look at our wireless businesses, they’re already bringing in well over $100 million a year. And we’re just getting warmed up in that space.”
