Business Standard: When I saw this news item that BSNL
was looking at expanding its internet subscriber base in Goa to 7,000 by the end of current fiscal year, I was wondering whether that the target wasn’t too small a number. I am not sure if it includes only broadband and not dial up.
BSNL is the main telecom operator in Goa, followed by private operators like Airtel and BPL Mobile, who primarily provide only mobile phone services and not the internet (Airtel has broadband services, but I am not sure if they have launched it in Goa yet).
India currently has a net subscriber base of 25 million and is expected to touch 30 million end of the year. But Goa’s, though a small state, number looks very small compared to its potential. The state is well known for its beaches.
