UK Operators To Open Up Mobile Commerce


The use of phones for mobile content commerce is set to take off in UK, as mobile operators announce a cross-network policy for its use, reports NMA. Mobile billing for content and services beyond pure mobile content, such as ringtones, has been hobbled over the last two years by a range of factors including EC regulation and operator policies.
These operators have agreed on a policy for mobile payments that will enable media companies and content owners to let consumers pay for all types of content and services using reverse billed SMS. Until now such services could only use mobile-originated (MO) billing – when a consumer is charged at the point of request by sending a premium SMS
