ML Media Conference: Sirius Looking At Combination Sat Radio-MP3 Player

Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin spoke at the Merrill Lynch Media & Entertainment conference earlier this week (archived webcast here).

HR: He told investors that his company is in talks to potentially offer a combination satellite radio-MP3 digital music player. In the meantime, though, he compared his company’s recently announced portable radio (S-50) to an iPod and to the new Motorola cell phone equipped with iTunes.

– Karmazin also said a new Sprint Nextel phone featuring 21 Sirius music channels for $6.95 a month began selling Tuesday, and Sirius has extended an exclusive relationship with automaker BMW through August 2008. Still having conversation with other carriers and handset manufacturers.

– Looking to introduce video to cars by 2007…we have announced it with Diamler Chrysler. We would like to have children programming for the back seat..maybe sports for kids.
