French telco Orange has increased its mobile TV and radio channels from 20 to 61 — 50 TV channels and 11 radio channels. The system is sent over the 3G network rather than a special broadcasting technology…
“The reason Orange is doing this is because it has to subsidize its video phones far less than any of its other phones. People see video on an advertisement and these ads are four times more effective in selling the service. Effectively the more video channels we add, the less their advertising costs,” said David Justin of Globecast.
That’s an interesting concept…promoting 3G phones through 3G content rather than other media advertising…
