NBC U Pins Future On Being Platform Agnostic

In the first installment of a two-parter on NBC Universal, Diane Mermigas explores, among other things, the GE subsidiary’s conversion to platform agnosticism. From her interview with NBC Universal Chairman and CEO Bob Wright: “”We are first and foremost a content company. Two of our biggest priorities are getting digital off the ground and getting traction in wireless. It’s not just about creating your own service. There are lots of players out there who are going to be needing content, and we will sell it to them.”
Randy Falco, president of NBC U Television Networks Group, says the company must “become agnostic to the technology and platform.” She reports that “well-placed” sources say NBC U is “in serious discussions with Sony, Microsoft, Yahoo!, AOL, Google, Apple and Comcast about innovative alliances to achieve that goal.”
Lots more to this lengthy piece.
