How often do you get to use these in one headline? Depeche Mode, Ticketmaster and iTunes are teaming up to offer a new music-ticket option. Starting today, iTunes pre-orders of the group’s new album “Playing the Angel” come with a password good for the chance to purchase up to four tickets for some of the band’s 2005 concerts. Those with passwords get a 10-day head start before the general public tickets go on sale Sept. 24. The pre-ordered albums will be delivered digitally Oct. 18.
This is a variaton on the theme of offering priority seating to fans who sign uop for special email lists or are willing to pay to be part of the priority ticket pool. Depeche Mode claims to be the first to offer advance ticketing with album pre-orders in 1998; playing the digital option updates the concept. Mind you, this doesn’t guarantee seats — just the right to try to buy them.
