Following up on my earlier post, AOL Music is expanding its podcasting emphasis by adding directory and search services.
– Users of AOL’s Winamp 5.1 can use its new SHOUTcast Wire podcast directory powered by PodShow’s iPodder. This way, AOL provides access to an authoritative directory without having to build one itself. Podcasters who want to be included have to go through iPodder.
– TVEyes’ Podscope search engine will be integrated into AOL Search; launched in April, Podscope uses “Spoken Word Indexing” to search podcasts. One example. In addition to adding search, integrating Podscope will expand AOL’s podcast directory by adding shows not included in iPodder. Podcasters can request that their shows be included or excluded.
Seems like a good way to add services and create a podcast site that can encourage stickiness without reinventing the wheel. It reminds me of the deal to use Feedster for RSS.
