[by Mike Butcher] Jonathon Bill, head of category management, Vodafone scoffed at suggestions that that Vodafone Live! was a mobile “walled garden”: “It’s never existed really. Recently we’ve started pointing to ‘sites we like’ outside Vodafone Live. We absolutely want to fuel ‘direct to consumer’ business on the mobile and it’s for us to signpost that and drive it. It’s only a matter of time before we start to have a navigation pointing to content providers outside the service. I also know news aggregation is really important, and the challenge is turning that into revenue, but news will stay as a fundamental service.”
