AOL.com’s podcasting efforts popped up on the radar late last month but this week marks the official unveiling. We’ll have some specifics very early Wednesday about a couple of interesting partner programs that will enhance AOL’s podcasting. In the meantime, AOL’s programming approach is worth some attention.
Podcasting resides within the AOL Radio section of AOL Music. Elements of what AOL calls Podcasting 101 include a very simple how-to box with instructions on how to download or subscribe, a “Top 11 Podcasts” feature similar to AOL’s other Top 11 lists (CNN’s podcasts arfe in the number one slot tonight) and spotlights on various shows. In terms of programming, AOL Radio is hosting tech guru Leo Laporte’s new podcast “Security Now” and the main feed of his popular “This Week In Tecnology” — by Sept. 8 the two feeds had combined for more than 1 million downloads from AOL Radio. The 15 shows currently showcased include AOL’s “Sports Bloggers Live”; look for more original programming in coming months. Several shows are streamed as part of the AOL Radio-XM Radio partnership on a new 24/7 podcasting station. (It crashed when I tried to use it; I’ll try again when I have time to make through the suggested fix.) More later.
The Podcasting section is sponsored by Portable Media Expo and Podcasting Conference
