Motorola ROKR Advertising Campaign

Motorola iPhone AdI don’t normally post about ads for mobile stuff, but Motorola is putting a lot of effort and money into the campaign for its new Rokr. “The campaign brings together a host of past and present music legends including Madonna, Little Richard, The Bravery, Iggy Pop, Biggie Smalls, Ahmir, Common and Beethoven, in a screen-first, directed by a new breed of Hollywood filmmaker, Jesse Dylan.” As I’ve said before, those names don’t come cheap. Music is being seen as the current wave of competition in the mobile handset industry (previously it was cameras, next it will be TV) and Motorola is desperate to be associated with cool music. The media reports have been…shall we say lacklustre?…so the marketing campaign will have to generate enough interest until the next musicmoto handset comes out.
I just saw the ad here (MPG) and it’s pretty good…
but do you want to see people arguing in the face of all reason and evidence? “Geoffrey Frost, chief marketing officer of Motorola says, “Just as MOTOROKR is the first great fusion of music and phone, ‘Phone booth’ is the perfect fusion of genres and generations — a great metaphor for how we all express ourselves through the music we love. It’s a nice way to show how “the device formerly known as the cellphone” continues to evolve.”
