EBay Said to Be in Talks to Acquire Skype

More in Skype sale sage: eBay is now said to be interested, according to reports. The sale price is for $2 billion to $3 billion, says this story.
The talks are highly tentative and could fall apart…
An acquisition of Skype would be eBay’s biggest purchase since it bought the Internet Auction Company of South Korea in 2004 for $4.3 billion.

IDG: “I’m not sure if eBay really needs to buy a company like Skype to add another form of communications to its service,” said Ian Fogt, senior analyst at Juniper Research, a unit of Juniper Media. “You don’t need to own an e-mail company to encourage users to use this form of communication. A partnership would suffice.”

David Beisel: Given a blank slate to spend suspending strategic considerations, eBay’s possible move re-raises the question – is connectivity worth more than content?
