India’s largest telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has planned Rs 500 crore ($125 million) investment for infrastructure upgradation, expansion and value addition of its broadband services.
”We have planned to offer new services for broadband customers. These include video on demand, gaming, e-health, e-medicine, etc. We are in search of partner for content creation,” BSNL CMD A K Sinha said.
BSNL has earmarked an investment of about Rs 5 billion for upgradation of infrastructure, expansion and to provide new facilities for the broadband users.
The state-owned telecom giant, which currently has about 0.1 million broadband users in 160 cities, expected to increase the customer base to about 1 million in over 200 cities by this fiscal. ”With the launch of broadband services, we want to attract our dial-up customers to the new experience of highspeed internet surfing at lower costs,” he said.
BSNL has 2.2 million dial-up customers, the highest among the broadband service providers, across the country.
