CIOL: According to the Quarterly Industry Performance Review for the quarter April-June of FY2005-06 by MAIT, the apex industry body for computer hardware, the buoyant IT consumption witnessed in FY 2004-05 continued undiminished in Q1 2004-05.
PC sales, Desktops and laptops taken together, crossed 10.1 lakh (1.01 million) units. Sales of Notebooks, Servers and Peripherals also witnessed robust growth. The industry appeared to have tided over the slowdown witnessed in the January-March quarter of 2004-05 induced by the confusion owing to the change in the duty structure for IT products post the Union budget and the subsequent introduction of VAT in April.
