Single-digit rankings in today’s heated search environment doesn’t cut it for a general search engine and it isn’t enough for Ask Jeeves, espcially now that it’s owned by Barry Diller’s IAC/Interactive. CEO Steve Berkowitz talked to vnunet.com about the company’s expansion in thre U.S., UK and, coming up, across Europe, including Spain, Germany and France.
Ask changed its ad strategy last month, cutting down on the ad clutter in favor of showing three commercial links “above the fold” — and only three links. His drive is to increase frequency of use building on the uniques Ask already gets.
One caution from Berkowitz: “Remember, we all talk about broadband but many people still are on dialup and so it will take a long time for the market place get to where we all like it to be.
