Skype released a couple of new betas this past week that look very promising. Skype 1.4 for Windows adds some nice new features and bug fixes:
- Improved call quality
- Call forwarding
- Personalized sounds, ringtones and pictures
- Improved search, adding contacts and finding contacts from Outlook, Outlook Express and Opera

Note that some add-on applications such as SkypeHeadset do not work with this beta.
Skype 1.2 for the Pocket PC is a long overdue upgrade for this platform and add these features:
- Skype to Skype calls
- SkypeOut calls
- IM chats
- Voicemail support
Note this must be installed via a PC.
SkypeHeadset has been updated to work ok with Skype 1.4
The call forwarding is a welcome addition and works VERY well. If Skype could somehow enable 911 support, I think I would ditch my landline for sure. Of course, then we would need a new federal “do-not-disturb” list for our SkypeOut numbers.
