Werd Interactive has released some games for mobile phones…the games are simple but of the addictive type that seem to do so well. What makes them special is the price — US$1.99 (which has a subscript emphasizing that “is DAMN cheap”). And it is cheap — from what I’ve seen games either cost more than $5 or have a limited licence, such as 50c for three days.
Werd’s not pushing the boundaries, although comments by managing director Randy Shepherd in the release indicates they know where the boundaries are. I think the most pertinent thing he said was at the end: “If we’re serious about making mobile a truly universal platform for gaming, we’re going to have to get a hell of a lot more players involved. That’s what Neo Retro is all about. It’s a couple of bucks. It’s simple and fun. Tell your friends.”
Premium prices for premium games, reasonable prices for the rest, that’s what I say.
