Saregama Embarks On Digital Music Strategy

Sify.com: Kolkata-based Saregama India Ltd is setting up a master server with over three lakh songs to cash in on increased digital downloading of songs. The master site costing a couple of crores of rupees would combat illegal downloading of songs and cash in on the business proposition, Saregama’s vice-chairman Sanjiv Goenka said. 35 per cent of the work was complete and the server would be ready in a few months.
Apart from ensuring presence in all internet portals, Saregama also intends to exploit the demand from some 40 new FM radio stations that would be coming up in the country. The company is also focusing on download of ring tones, which has become the latest fad among the young, Goenka said.
