Lost in the iPhone shuffle, this wouldn’t the first — and might not even be the coolest– music-to-phone option out there. Napster To Go already works with some phones by circumventing the carriers. Carrier-centric possibilities are already out there. Sirius will be streaming on Sprint Nextel. Those of us with mp3-capable phones can port music to the handset via infrared, Bluetooth or memory cards (the easiest). Etc. Beyond that, notes Arik Hesseldahl, Apple and Motorola would have a few other hurdles to jump like pricing, usability, consumer appeal. I’ll add service and reliability to the list — people rely on their cellphones for communication first. Battery problems with an iPod are annoying; substitute cell phone for that and you have a real mess.
