The Financial Express:
A nice interview with Ravi Sharma, President (South Asia) of Alcatel. He talks about Wi-Fi, WiMax, Alcatel’s tie-up with C-DOT on WiMax, and what technologies would be suitable for India.
A sample question: Which broadband technology is most suited for India in terms of speed of deployment and cost?
Answer: “I think there can be no one technology which can suit the Indian environment. It is like getting into the concept that which is the best language for India. So, I think it will vary from sector to sector. Where ever the fibre is already laid, it will be the true triple band technology which will be deployed. When we go to villages, they will start getting covered first by GSM and then by WiMAX. So, I think a combination of technologies will serve the country.”
