More People Are Watching Cable Hurricane Coverage Online Than On TV

It looks like more people are following cable network news coverage of Hurricane Katrina online than on TV. I can’t do a complete one-to-one comparison yet but here are some numbers for perspective. For instance, during Sunday primetime Fox had 4 million viewers, CNN 2.2 million and MSNBC 497,000. Compare that to the 10 million unique visitors and 9 million video downloads CNN.com reported Monday. By mid-afternoon Monday, MSNBC.com had served more than 3.5 million videos — including nearly 1 million live streams.
Some of the online traffic can be attributed to people returning to offices Monday but even on Sunday MSNBC.com had 1.3 million plays. (Cable audience numbers via TVNewser.)
