Maybe Microsoft’s New OS Should Be Called Hollywood, Not Vista

More on Microsoft’s efforts to make next-gen OS Vista attractive to Hollywood … Microsoft is making every effort to close off avenues for audio and video hacking, even putting some processes behind walls. It doesn’t take long to get into territory that could turn off consumers: according to John Borland, it employs “digital security checks that could even shut off a computer’s connections to some monitors or televisions if antipiracy procedures that stop high-quality video copying aren’t in place.”
Microsoft execs say it’s the only way to work with the studios. Marcus Matthias, product manager, digital media division: “The table is already set. We can come in and eat at the buffet, or we can stand outside and wash cars.”
