A recent post about a global consumer bill of rights for mobile phone users brought be into contact with Greg Wilfahrt, the Executive Vice President of SMS.ac, the mobile community I daresay you’ve been invited to join. I’ve read a lot of negative things about SMS.ac in a few places, and Wilfahrt was happy to respond to the issues I brought up (I concentrated on consumer issues since I figured things like ‘Cease and Desist’ letters and Greek names aren’t relevant to MocoNews readers). SMS.ac claims 40 million registered users in 180 countries so is arguably one of the most successful mobile content companies in the world, and IDC included it in the “10 Emerging Wireless Players to Watch” list for 2005. As such, criticism of the company is worth paying attention to, as is the response of the company, since it’s likely to affect the way people view mobile content and mobile communities. If you have any comments its best if they are posted after the article linked to above, and if you have any further issues send them to me and I’ll publish any response I get from Greg Wilfahrt.
