Digital Media in Taxis, Through Wi-Fi and GPRS

A new taxi TV network being started in Italy…TV in the taxis is not new, bu this one, called MICE TV, for Mobile Info Communication Entertainment, is wireless information system that beams news, light entertainment and commercials onto a small screen installed inside the taxi.

MICE uses Wi-Fi for the programs, which are downloaded every two weeks, and GPRS, the mobile phone technology, for the continuous news ticker that scrolls along the bottom of the monitor.

Cabdrivers receive text messages on their cellphones when a new video is ready…and they must drive to certain Wi-Fi hot spots to download the programs.
