Two recent surveys directly contradict each other about the demographics of the nascent podcast audience. A CLX survey of 8,000-plus U.S. consumers we mentioned earlier in the week showed that podcasting was most popular with the 45-plus crowd and that only 15 percent of the entire survey group had listened to a podcast. But a Jupiter Research report detailed by eWeek says the primary podcast audience is in the 18-34 range. Seven percent of the 4,000 people surveyed reported downloading or listening to podcasts regularly in the past year.
I have to agree with Techdirt… what this really shows is “that no one really knows who’s listening to podcasts these days, as the concept is still too early for a real stable ‘market’ to have formed.”
