UK telco BT is planning a mobile content portal to compete with operator portals such as Vodafone Live and integrate with its broadband and wireless services. BT runs and MVNO reselling Vodafones network…
BT has about 300K mobile customers and a basic mobile portal already in placy, but the new portal will be “focused heavily on convergence, with content and applications planned to integrate closely with all the telco’s services”. Apparently they want everything, “every type of rich mobile content and services”, which makes sense — there’s no point offering less than you can. The company has issued two formal request for quotation (RFQ) documents for suppliers to the service and is understood to have shortlisted InfoMedia Services, Buongiorno and Jamba.
A lot of big telcos and other players in the industry speak about convergence, but often they only get as far as issuing one bill. I wonder if BT will go a little further…
