Report: Vonage IPO In The Works

VoIP provider Vonage Holdings Corp. — the largest phone-by-internet company in the U.S. — is planning an IPO hoping to raise as much as $600 million, according to a single-source report from the Wall Street Journal. Vonage serves about 800,000 U.S. households. The paper was trying to confirm an earlier report at TheDeal.com (sub. req.).
It doesn’t seem like a lot considering the numbers bandied about for Skype, which can’t be used as a total phone substitute, and the recent IPO victory for Chinese search firm Baidu but the Journal rightly notes that it would be a test of investor interest in the telecom startup sector after the rash of bubble.com fades.
